Mummatto is a brand of limited edition, handwoven textile artworks where Scandinavian minimalism meets bold color composition. In her studio, Tuuli weaves unique rugs designed to be both functional and pieces of art for everyday life.
The pieces come to life in Finland, slowly woven on traditional looms. The works take shape layer by layer, matching dozens of wefts and fabrics. Thanks to the weaving process, artistic vision, and varying materials, every rug becomes entirely unique.
From the Artist
Fabrics, which Mummatto rugs technically are, take shape wonderfully as a result of the creative process. Starting a new work sparks an immense inner drive brought on by an idea or a thought. The urge to create grows stronger with every preparatory task. All the stages, from sourcing, washing, and cutting the fabrics and wefts, are a delicious prelude. Different shades seem to court one another until the final color palette is locked in. I have noticed that if I try to create something restrained and elegant, the work lacks the same pull, passion, and joy found in the pieces I truly love. I want your Mummatto to feed your aesthetic hunger and bring a smile to your lips for years, and hopefully even decades, to come.
The pieces truly are born as unique individuals, with fewer than twenty completed a year. In addition to the online store, these rarities are available at a few curated art and design events. For example, on August 29th–30th, 2026, you can find me and my rugs at the Helsinki Design Week's Design Market at the Cable Factory.

Questions about the studio
How long does it take to weave a textile artwork?
Weaving each composition takes several days, followed by finishing and inspections. The total time depends on the size and complexity. Each piece is woven calmly and with care.
Can I request a custom size or color scheme?
Yes. Any design can serve as a reference for a commissioned piece. You can request a custom size while preserving the original artwork's visual language and color scheme.
Are the pieces unique, or can I order multiples?
The available pieces are intrinsically unique, individual original works. Commissioned pieces follow the artist's visual language but are not exact copies, as the upcycled fabrics vary.
How are the pieces shipped?
Each piece is carefully rolled and packaged for safe delivery. Flat-rate shipping is available to 21 EU countries, and production times are communicated before confirming the order.
What materials do you use?
All pieces are handwoven from cotton and carefully sourced upcycled materials. The materials are washed, cut, and organized by color before weaving begins.
